 Power supply, generally known as power adapter, can be divided into boost or buck if it is distinguished by output voltage; it can be divided into traditional linear adapter / power supply or switching adapter / power if it is distinguished by design technology According to the final application location, it can also be divided into stand-alone or built-in; finally, it can be divided into AC to AC, AC to DC, DC to AC, and DC to DC if the final application location is used.

According to the application scope, the common power supply in the market can be divided into the following types:

■ information / communication: used in video and audio information or communication products. Such as LCD monitor, scanner, printer, fax

Machine, modem digital camera, etc;

■ audio and video products: used in the power supply of audio-visual products, such as CD player, DVD player, recorder, game player, LCD TV, etc;

■ general use: if the power supply for general purpose is not specified, it is mostly used in household appliances;

■ charger: generally refers to chargers for general rechargeable batteries, such as mobile phone or digital camera professional chargers. Manufacturers will consider classifying this type by information products;

■ power inverter: it refers to products with low input (such as 12VDC connected with vehicle battery) and output of high voltage 120VAC or 230cac.

■ uninterruptible power supply: rectifying the mains power to DC, then inverting to AC output; charging the battery at the same time. In case of power interruption, DC output for battery will be converted into AC output to equipment automatically. The English abbreviation is ups.

International regulations related to product certification

The power supply reduces the mains power supply or raises the low voltage to the mains voltage. Therefore, there are two versions of 100-120vac and 200-240Vac. Most of the small-sized power supplies are designed to be directly inserted into the wall. If the products are planned to be sold worldwide, many plug types should be considered.

Power supply regulations usually meet the requirements of safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The safety specifications are more complex. Electromagnetic compatibility will have more trouble only when switching power supply, while linear power supply seldom has EMC problems.

When the power supply supplies power to different products, the regulations and standards that should be complied with are also different. In principle, the laws and standards to be complied with are determined by the products to be used.
