South Korea began to implement a new certification system KC certification on January 1, 2009. The new certification method divides the products applied into two categories. The products of category 1 (Compulsory Certification) need factory inspection, and the certificate has no validity period; the products of category 2 (voluntary certification) do not need factory inspection, and the certificate is valid for five years. Among them, South Korea will classify AV products, some information products and power supplies for personal computer as "voluntary safety verification" and the certificate is valid for five years. Video and audio products and some information products that have applied for EK mark will be automatically transferred to new categories in the system of Korean certification authority, and the certificate is valid from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2013. In addition, Korea has unified the original EK mark as KC (Korea certification) Mark since July 1, 2009. Since the logo conversion does not affect the certification security standard, there is no need to update the original certificate. However, the original EK mark will only be used until June 30, 2011. After that, the logo on the product nameplate must be converted to KC mark before it can be sold in Korea
